Brunac Sterile Eye-Drops Acetylcysteine 5%
Composition:100ml of eye-drops contains:N-acetylcysteine 5g
Pharmacological properties.
The active component of BRUNAC eye-drops is acetylcysteine. This substance, well known since many years as elective mucolitic in many diseases of the respiratory tree has used in oculistic clinic to inhibit the collagenasis of the cornea. It is well, in fact, that this enzyme, absent or quiescent in healthy cornea, is present following corneal alteration or laceration. It performs a lysing action on the epithelium of the cornea generating corneal ulcers with risk of piercing.Acetylcysteine performs a specific inhibitory action with respect to the corneal collagenasis, both reducing the enzyme bindings and chelating the calcium and zinc ions, basic co-factors in the collagenasic activity. This blocks the lysis of the epithelium, so allowing the cicatrization of corneal ulcers.
The mucolitic action of acetylcysteine is also used in cases of lacrimal aqueous deficit accompanied by excessive secretion of mucous and the formation of characteristic filaments.
As it is well known this action is achieved by rupturing the sulphide bonds in the sulphydrylic groups of mucoproteins.
While other derivatives of cysteine are also inhibitors of collagenasis, acetylcysteine is preferred due to its greater stability. |
Therapeutic Indications:
Brunac is an inhibitor of the collagenase enzyme of the cornea.It is indicated in Corneal ulcers,kerathopathies of different etiology,corneal affections due to altered lachrymal secretion.
Contraindications:Individual hypersensitivity to components.
Warnings and precautions:To be used under medical control.Do not use in children except in case of absolute necessity seen by doctor.
Use in Pregnancy and lactation:It is not contraindicated in case of pregnancy and lactation.
Undesirable effects:Seldom light transitory irritations may occur.
Please refer to the physician any undesirable effect noted.
Interactions with other medicaments and other forms of interaction:Interactions with other medicaments are not known and therefore,according to doctor?s advice,it can be administered in association with other eye-drops containing antibiotics or other active substances.
Use instructions and Posology : Tear up the aluminium cap and open the glass bottle,take the dropper and plug the bottle. Apply one-two drops three/four times daily.
Overdose:Cases of overdose are not known.
Special precautions for storage and shelf life:
Storage after first opening:Keep the medicament,ready for use,in refrigerator between +4C o and +8C o
Discard eye-drops 15 days after the first opening.
Shelf life is 2 years if kept at a temperature not higher than 25oC before opening.
To be used under medical control.
Keep out of the reach of children and well closed in original packaging.
